DEHRADUN:

The Himalaya Bachao Abhiyan started in Uttarakhand with chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat rendering an oath to bureaucrats and secretariat officers to conserve the environment and the Himalayas. He said that for people hailing from Uttarakhand, each day was ‘Himalaya Diwas’. Issues related to migration, bioeconomy, climate change, ecosystem service, green bonus, disaster risk reduction and green technology would be discussed.

“Our prosperity is only in the preservation and prosperity of the Himalayas,” said the CM. A two-day Himalayan Sustainable Development Summit 2017 will start from September 9. As part of the mission, Himalaya Diwas will be celebrated on September 9 and 10 and the state government would organize a string of programmes in the run up to the event. Appreciating the campaign of 'Hindustan', the Chief Minister said that the security of the Himalayas is an important responsibility of all of us.

The Himalayan Bachao Abhiyan in Haldwani started with a loud noise. Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya administered the oath to the people to save the Himalayas at Shri Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani. Mandi Parishad President Gajraj Bisht said that polythene has already been stopped in all the mandis of Uttarakhand. This campaign of India is proving to be an important step towards making people aware to stop using polythene.
